I was born on March 13th, 1954 at 10:27 pm, in the town of Leigh, which, back in those days, was in the good old county of Lancashire, England. For anybody who might be interested, here's my chart.
So there I was, this little blonde haired, blue-eyed angel, just tootling along, minding my own business, when at the age of 13 months I was struck down with cerebro-spinal meningitis. For days, my life was despaired of as I gradually lost my vision and my ability to respond to outside stimuli. Mum and dad thought I was a goner, until the consultant told them he was going to pump me full of a new, experimental drug called "Streptomycin."
Apparently, it had never before been tried on meningitis cases in the U.K., so this was going to be something of an experiment - a great way to run a railroad, some might think, but there you go - and if it worked on me, they would apply it to other, similar cases. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I was shot full of this stuff over one weekend, and slowly but surely, started to make what was to be a full recovery. Even today, apparently, some folk still regard me as "the miracle baby," but I don't see it as a miracle. As far as I'm concerned, Great Spirit knew it wasn't my time to die - he had work for me to do, and at the age of 13, I found that work; I found Astrology.
I was immediately hooked on this fascinating way of figuring out what all the girls were like just by knowing their Sun-signs, but I soon started to take it a lot more seriously and studied avidly alone in my room until I finally managed to erect a complete chart - my own. The sense of self-discovery, of absolute wonderment, was total and immediate. I was completely hooked, and as the years rolled by I erected and analyzed the horoscopes of all my friends and family, to the utter dismay of my Roman Catholic mother, who thought I'd gone completely doollally!Undeterred by such parental encouragement, I carried on studying until eventually I decided to sit for the intermediate certificate with the "Faculty Of Astrological Studies," but I never finished the course, mostly due to lack of funds. Then one year I went to my first major astrological conference, held by the prestigious Manchester Astrology Group. Within two years I was chairman, lecturing throughout the U.K., including my first taste of the "big time," a two-hour lecture at the "Astrological Association" conference in Norwich in 1984. I'd finally made it!
Since then, I have continued to lecture and teach, and in 1992 collaborated on a 70-minute video called "Astrology Revealed," which is a rich and colourful introduction to our great craft. I got married to Linda, a Virgo, in September 2000, and I have three great kids: Martin, a 1978 Capricorn; Sian, a 1981 Cancer, and Tanith, another Cappie, born in 1989. I also have a crazy cat called "Sathya," who delights in being a Sun Pisces with a Gemini Moon, and who graciously allows us to live with him here, in Birkenhead, on Merseyside.
